There are many changes teens must endure as they move towards adulthood. From emotional, social, and cognitive milestones to athletic, band or artistic achievements, it is no wonder teens struggle so much. While facing challenges is predictable, sometimes it can be challenging to know what is “normal” behavior versus behavior teens need some guidance to navigate.
Counseling teens is a little different than working with children or adults. Teens have more ability to make decisions for themselves while also at times needing parents guidance to make appropriate decisions. Teens sometimes need a non biased, caring adult to help them sort out their thoughts and feelings with all that they are facing. At times, teens aren’t interested in sharing specifics going on in their lives, but are open to learning healthier coping techniques to help with their struggles. Parent participation is also an important part of teen therapy, as they can share their concerns, ideas and report progress while also helping the family to create a more healthy environment. Our counselors at ESSENTIALS, are here to assist teens and parents to feeling more confident in passing through this stage of life.
